Breadcrumbing: Online Dating Behavior<\/h1>\n

Breadcrumbing<\/strong>! This sounds rather familiar! Within the online dating<\/strong><\/a> scene in the modern age, certain behaviours have now been labelled. <\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, we do have ghosting<\/strong><\/a>; cutting off all contact from someone you\u2019ve been building a relationship with completely disappearing. <\/span>But, now we also have Breadcrumbing<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is what I wish to look at in this blog post as it\u2019s a bit more subtle<\/strong>, can take some figuring out and is a lot crueller<\/strong> than ghosting.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Is Breadcrumbing?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Really, if we actually look a little closer, we see that breadcrumbing has been around for years as the definition of it is \u201cleading someone on\u201d<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throwing them enough \u201cbread crumbs\u201d to make them think there is romantic interest or that there is likely to be a relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n

So What Is The Big Deal?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Well now we have Social Media and all these extra ways of communicating<\/strong> with someone, breadcrumbing is so much easier to achieve and so much easier to fall for too. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How many times has ex suddenly appeared on your Social Media as a follow or a \u201cfriend\u201d<\/strong> or simply just \u201cliked\u201d<\/strong> one of your posts out of the blue? <\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes that\u2019s all it takes for someone to wonder<\/strong> whether there is room for reconciliation. That\u2019s daft you may think, however, it happens all the time<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Many people don\u2019t think about the implications<\/strong> of their actions<\/strong> and the impact that could have; or do they??<\/span><\/p>\n

What Other Examples Of Breadcrumbing Are There?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

  1. Constant texting and never committing to a meetup or date<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Arranging dates and always cancelling<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Late-night booty calls\/texts.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Wanting to meet up on the spur of the moment with no pre-arrangement<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Blowing hot and cold<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Keen one minute and disappearing for weeks or months and then reappearing as if nothing’s happened<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Never wanting to \u201clabel\u201d your relationship<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    As you can see the above is easy with Social Media and let’s face it most of us do this to some degree these days.<\/span><\/p>\n

    What Can You Do To Combat Being Breadcrumbed?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Breadcrumbing is a controlling behaviour because it keeps the \u201cvictim\u201d<\/strong> rooted to the spot and continually waiting things out to see if they get any more crumbs. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The best way to combat being breadcrumbed is to hit it directly<\/strong>, take the power away from the person who is throwing the crumbs. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    A lot of people don\u2019t want to do this because they are fearful of losing the “Crumb Thrower” altogether. However, a reality check<\/strong> is needed here, because what is the “Crumb Thrower” really giving you? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Very little! In fact, it\u2019s more likely to boost their own ego and mess with your head!<\/span><\/p>\n

    Examples\u00a0 Of Breadcrumbing<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Here are some examples that may help you to spot Bread Crumbing and how to be direct with your “Crumb Thrower”<\/span><\/p>\n

    Scenario: The ex adds you back to Social Media<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

    A quick DM before you accept, to ask them what they want after all this time. \u00a0Then it\u2019s your call whether to accept them or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Scenario: Constant texting and never arranging to see you<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

    A lighted hearted text that simply says \u201care we going to constantly text forever or did you fancy meeting up soon?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    Scenario: A text at 6 pm asking if they can see you at 7.30 pm?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
