The\u00a0Spring Equinox <\/strong>is here at last! Flowers in full bloom, better weather (we can hope!) and longer days! The Equinox marks the first day of Spring<\/strong> and where the daytime and nighttime are of equal length. During this current situation, that we all find ourselves in, it’s a welcome feeling of change! Although we might not be able to experience a\u00a0regular day out, we can appreciate a window open with fresh air or even a short walk to keep us all motivated!<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget to set your clocks an hour forward Sunday 29th March!\u00a0The very welcome Daylight Saving Time starts\u00a0by\u00a0announcing the beginning of\u00a0British Summer Time<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Spring Equinox<\/p><\/div>\n

What is the\u00a0Spring Equinox?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Spring Equinox<\/strong>\u00a0will mark a transition period where the days begin getting\u00a0longer<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0Northern Hemisphere<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0shorter<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0Southern Hemisphere<\/strong>. This is because Earth\u2019s poles\u00a0create a maximum tilt away from the Sun in the Southern\u00a0Hemisphere and maximum tilt toward the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/p>\n

The word Equinox<\/strong> is Latin which translates as “equal night”, as the day and night of the first day will be of equal length. In ancient times, the Spring Equinox was used as a way of keeping track of the seasons. If you’re based in the UK, people gather around Stonehenge<\/strong> to celebrate the Equinox in a variety of song and dances! In Mexico, there are gatherings at the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza<\/strong> where the sun, at\u00a0key\u00a0points of the day, creates shadows in the shape of snakes on the steps of the pyramids.<\/p>\n
