The History of Colours – with Hands of an Angel<\/h1>\n

As one of Psychic Today’s Colour Therapists<\/strong><\/a>, <\/strong>I have been always been fascinated with the origin of colours and their subsequent associations in life today!<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0history<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0colours<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0goes<\/span> far back<\/span> to over<\/span>\u00a02000 years<\/strong>. For instance, did you actually know that the primary colours are red<\/span><\/strong>, yellow<\/span><\/strong><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and blue<\/span><\/strong>? Let’s find out more<\/strong>!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Earliest Colour Studies<\/h2>\n

One of the earliest studies and theories about colours<\/strong>\u00a0was done by Aristotle<\/strong><\/a>. He discovered that\u00a0<\/span>combining<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>two colours<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>leads to the creation of\u00a0<\/span>a third\u00a0<\/span>colour<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Greeks<\/b> use colours as a scientific aspect of their lives. The <\/span>Chinese<\/b> use colour and practice colour healing. Known as the <\/span>Nei\/ching<\/b>, this text dates back over 2000 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Isaac Newton<\/a><\/strong> pioneered the field of colour. He published his first controversial paper on colours in 1672. Forty years later, he published a book called work on optics.<\/div>\n

Colours and Their Meanings<\/h2>\n

Blue<\/span><\/h2>\n

This colour is for art, military, business and nature. In Egypt, blue pigment is derived from <\/span>azurite<\/b>, a mineral found in minerals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Likewise, the sky (on a clear day<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0if\u00a0<\/span>you<\/span>‘re lucky!) and\u00a0<\/span>sea are also associated with this\u00a0<\/span>colour<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>especially<\/span>\u00a0with uniforms for the Royal Navy<\/strong><\/span> and the Metropolitan Police<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, there are many different shades for this colour. Hues of Blue include Cyan<\/strong><\/span>, which is midway between blue and green.<\/p>\n

Red<\/span><\/h2>\n

The colour red is a symbol of vitality and celebration, yet it is also depicted as being the colour of the Devil. <\/span><\/p>\n

Looking closer, it also has emotions ranging from strength to <\/span>anger<\/b>, <\/span>danger<\/b> and <\/span>heat<\/b> to l<\/span>ove<\/b>, <\/span>passion<\/b> and <\/span>sex<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Chinese<\/b> have it as a good luck fortune of well-being and happiness. Also, certain businesses favour red, including Coca-Cola<\/strong><\/span>, McDonald’s<\/strong><\/span> and Netflix<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yellow<\/span><\/h2>\n

Yellow is the sunshine<\/strong><\/span> of gold<\/strong><\/span>. Initially, this historic and bright colour comes from the pigment of clay.<\/p>\n

This is known as the first colour ever used in cave paintings and is used by artists such as Vincent van Gogh<\/strong><\/a>, who loved the vibrant colour with warmth, happiness and joy.<\/p>\n

In certain countries, it represents cowardice, betrayal, illness. In Japan<\/strong>, yellow represents courage. The<\/span>\u00a0colour was also found in toxins<\/span>. In fact, in Mexico<\/strong>, certain shades can mean death.<\/p>\n

Green<\/span><\/h2>\n

Green originates from the Anglo-Saxon<\/strong> word grene<\/strong>. The meaning of grass, green is a natural colour and environment.<\/p>\n

Western countries like Ireland have a green shamrock<\/strong><\/span>, four-leaf clover<\/strong><\/span>, and it is a lucky<\/strong><\/span> colour.<\/p>\n

In fact, this colour can bring jealousy<\/strong> and greed<\/strong> and balance emotions to promote clarity and zen<\/strong> energies.<\/p>\n

Orange<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Ancient Egyptians<\/strong><\/a> and mediaeval artists liked this colour. Under the reign of William III<\/strong><\/a> it was a political colour in Britain<\/strong>. The impression artists Cezanne<\/strong><\/a> and Renoir<\/a><\/strong> also used this colour.<\/p>\n

In contrast, orange is a mixed colour. Light peach tones offer sweet and affordable intense, vibrant energy<\/strong> and encouragement<\/strong>. Companies that favour this colour include Amazon<\/strong><\/span>, Harley Davidson<\/strong><\/span> and Nickelodeon<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Purple<\/span><\/h2>\n

Purple is the colour that our Royal Family<\/strong> uses. As<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>well<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>being\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>colour<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the Holy Roman Empire and later\u00a0<\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0Roman Catholic bishops<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is traditionally associated with the\u00a0<\/span>imperial family in Japan<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

It<\/span>‘s\u00a0<\/span>hard<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>not to think of\u00a0<\/span>Cadbury’s chocolate<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>when<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>comes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>this\u00a0<\/span>colour<\/span>!<\/span> Lavender<\/strong><\/span> and Deep Purple<\/strong><\/span> again have different meanings, including communication, femininity and romance.<\/p>\n

Pink<\/span><\/h2>\n

Pink\u00a0<\/span>has<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>been\u00a0<\/span>fashioned\u00a0<\/span>primarily<\/span>\u00a0in art and design. It\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>used<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>promote<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>breast cancer awareness and\u00a0<\/span>to make\u00a0<\/span>ladies products<\/span>. Most women love to wear this colour as it gives innocent, girlhood love<\/strong> and gentleness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are many shades of pink as the meanings of passion<\/strong> and romance <\/strong>and sensuality and creativity. Adele, in fact, used pink on one of her albums. Companies include Victoria’s Secret<\/strong><\/span> and Cosmopolitan<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

White<\/span><\/h2>\n

The lightest colour is also the <\/span>purest<\/b>. History tells us it was in use in art, sculpture, and was around before any other colour. It was originally coloured with <\/span>chalk<\/b> made of <\/span>calcite<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moreover, white can also mean grief and loss, spirituality, purity and sacredness. The Romans wore white togas as symbols of citizenship. A prism<\/strong><\/a> can use the white light<\/strong> to refract light, which shows the rainbow<\/strong> colours!<\/p>\n

Brown<\/span><\/h2>\n

Brown is native, organic and natural. In\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>business<\/span>\u00a0world<\/span>, it is used by UGG boots<\/strong><\/span> and cotton<\/strong> companies<\/span>. It is the minor favourite colour of a poll by the public.<\/p>\n

A variety of autumnal colours are seen in nature, wood, soil and culture. Earlier, this pigment was as early as prehistoric times. Brown is the colour of <\/span>dark wood<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>rich soil<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Black<\/h2>\n

In history, the darkest shade was created by <\/span>charcoals<\/b> and <\/span>crushed minerals<\/b>. In Greek mythology, it was known as evil. <\/span><\/p>\n

A colour of sadness and mourning, but at the time of ancient Egypt, it was cheerful and protected all fertility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, many <\/span>newspapers<\/b> and <\/span>magazines<\/b> use black-and-white photos. Adidas<\/strong>, Nike<\/strong>, and Chanel<\/strong> perfume are a few brands that use this colour.<\/span><\/p>\n
