The Eye Of The Tiger – Chinese New Year 2022
Happy Chinese New Year to you all! The 1st of February marks the start of the Year of the Tiger. What does that mean exactly? Plus, what indeed do animals have to do with the year you were born?
Well fortunately have a psychic at Psychic Today who can tell us! Having lived in Shanghai, China, our gentleman psychic Nigel brings his unique knowledge from a Chinese perspective for this Chinese New Year!
The 12 Signs of the Chinese Zodiac
Each year is represented by an animal. There are 12 animals to go with a 12-year cycle. The history of twelve signs goes back to the Chinese Jade Emperor‘s; in Chinese folklore, he is a god of Chinese Taoism.
He wanted to select 12 animals, based on each of their characteristics, to be his guards in the afterlife. The 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac and some of their traits are as follows:
Rat – Adaptable, excellent intuition.
Ox – Conscientious, high sense of morality.
Tiger – Courage, unpredictability, stubbornness.
Rabbit – Impulsive, compassionate, modest.
Dragon – Confidence, wit, dominance.
Snake – Intelligence, wisdom, privacy.
Horse – Popularity, being a bit of a free spirit, hard work, intelligence.
Goat (or Ram) – Kindness, sensitivity, politeness, creativity.
Monkey – Wit, intelligence, confidence.
Rooster – Independence, punctuality, reliability.
Dog – Compassionate, honesty, loyalty.
Pig – Friendliness, occasional laziness, wisdom.
See the chart below to see which animal was in the year that you were born:

Chinese New Luna Year
Just like the western year, New Year’s Eve is the most important day. It’s the same in most Chinese homes. They celebrate the end of the 12th circle of the lunar calendar with dumplings, lucky money, and firecrackers.
In the great times of China’s ancient kingdoms, the Chinese people would honour the moon’s power and its influence, not only for harvests but also for religion (Taoism and then later Buddhism).
Some traditional Chinese families in smaller towns and villages will still seek advice from a Chinese astrologer about the moon’s timing and zodiac for the best times to get married or start a family.
As a society built on the Lunar year, the moon has shaped its culture, from the Chinese Zodiac to eating dumplings, and classic folklore.
Happy Chinese New Year!
From everyone from Psychic Today, we wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year!
Xin Nian kuai (新年快乐)!
