The Lunar Eclipse – Three Card Tarot – 7th August 2017
Though this Lunar Eclipse isn’t getting quite as much acclaim as the rare solar eclipse we’re having later in the month- it’s not less powerful. This one occurs on August 7th in Aquarius and is a grab bag of influences. Because of this, I thought as I go into those, I’d also add in a special tarot reading just for your month ahead.
I will be using Le Tarot Noir by French artist, Matthieu Hackiere, if you’re curious about the deck. I chose this because of the interesting blend of Plutonian influences in the mix. All in all, this eclipse is one more facet of what can be an intense month.
What does a lunar eclipse mean?
This Lunar Eclipse occurs on the full moon. Now, like most lunations, of course, the focus is emotional but, this also shines a light on our relationships. If you understand astrology, you understand that everything is connected- these events don’t just hit one day and then vanish. This eclipse may tie back to events that occurred in February of this year. Though this is in the sign of Aquarius, it’s actually taking place in the constellation of Capricorn.
Bear with me, it gets a bit complex: but, the simplest version is leadership is a focus. Particularly, in greater good situations. That does not necessarily mean you’re going to become leader of the rebellion or anything- though, you might. It may just mean that you take a much more empowered, active role in how you run things in your own life and family.
So, let’s draw the first card on that- family. The card is The Empress, appropriately enough.
The Empress calls you to draw upon your feminine power. Even if you’re not a woman, you’ve got a feminine side: your anima. You will find that this lunation calls forth your desire to nurture- but, it must be an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Remember, you lead and you lead with your sensitivity and understand the bigger picture. Equally important, the Empress is understanding that compassion begins with you. As in: do not neglect or martyr yourself for others. You cannot share from your cup if you’ve emptied it.
As this lunar eclipse may bring about a time of ridding yourself of some emotional baggage, this makes sense. Be patient and understanding with yourself. Know that it’s all a process. You may still revisit some old wounds from time to time, and that’s okay. Continue forward. We pair this in the cycle with the coming solar eclipse for an influence that will carry us through the new year- so, this will be an energy you can continue to use.
Another thing you can see there in the chart is that Jupiter is square Pluto. If you’ll look around the center of the wheel above- look for the house marked with a 2 and you’ll find Pluto’s placement. Jupiter is in the 11th house. The only aspect in the chart more powerful than this is the Sun opposite Moon or the eclipse itself. This will give you a tremendous drive to change, to transform.
It can also have you feeling a bit restless if you don’t have a goal in mind- and with Uranus still retrograde, that can be heightened. Take care to channel your energy constructively. Do not give in to urges to manipulate or control, but rather, use discernment to understand that the only thing you can truly control: your own emotional reactions.
Let’s take that to the second card, here: The Four of Wands, reversed.
Given the focus of this lunar eclipse happens to be home life- this is not a shocking card. This does denote a certain level of disharmony and strife on the homefront.
If you have some resentment or hurt- it may be time to sit down and communicate it. Choose to do so in a healthy way. Understand that this is a time of transition and you can either allow the strife to undo or you can use it to strengthen your bonds. Breathe, be calm, and allow yourself a step back when needed.
It’s really not all doom, gloom and confronting the shadow, though. The Moon also happens to be Trine Jupiter here, which smooth things out a bit. This is a beautiful energy bringing about a warmer, more kind energy to things. Additionally, it can bring about recognition and sort of serendipitous encounters.
What might we expect from those? Well, that brings us to our final card: The Ace of Swords.
The Ace here pushes us to look for the truth. Now, with that Plutonian influence at play, our gut instincts may be a little bit too emotional to see things clearly- let alone with Uranus retrograde in the mix. However, we can gain quite a lot of clarity through calm and deliberate communication. Listening to hear, not to respond.
The Ace also brings about new beginnings but not just happenstance ones- ones we are empowered to do, ourselves. You take up your sword and you cut through the junk, so to speak.
In Conclusion
This lunar eclipse may bring on some intense emotions. However, what we can choose to do now, with this: is to learn to let go of our baggage. Learn to confront what we feel and honor it, so that we may heal. Communicate with honesty. Allow ourselves to feel free to make the choices we need to in order to manifest our bliss and success.
Give yourself the benefit of unburdening, breathe a bit more deeply to exhale the pain. Be ready for the new beginnings you are in fact, in total control of making.
The choice is yours – choose joy.
