23 August 2025, Black New Moon occurs in the zodiac of Virgo, a Mutable Earth sign. Mutable signs are ‘Flexible & Open-Minded’, Earth signs are ‘Trustworthy & Reliable’, and Virgo is ‘Caring & Detail Oriented’. Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury (the messenger god) and is analytical, caring, communicative, detailed, inventive, self-reliant and wise.
A seasonal Black Moon, is the third of four New Moons in a season (every 33 months), the exact counterpart to the definition of a Blue Moon. Seasonal Black Moons differ to the more frequent Black Moons: 2 New Moon phases occurring in the same calendar month (every 29 months). Consider the New Moon manifestation process is like sowing new seeds of possibilities and opportunities which will grow and bear fruit over time. The principles remain the same for all New Moon phases, and each lunar cycle is influenced by zodiac signs, seasons, and other planetary aspects – therefore key themes and energies will differ each lunation.
