All about My Africa Stones and How I Use them
So Now You Know By Lee Van Zyl.
For many years now I have been using my Africa Stones as a tool for divination whilst working on Psychic Today. This has certainly created not only some controversy, but has also piqued a lot of curiosity and intrigue. My introduction to this ancient form of divination came to me whilst I was a child growing up in Zambia central Africa, at the foot of my Sangoma nanny, Mummy N’ungele.
Mummy N’ungele’s heritage was Zulu. In her clan she was born into their proud tradition of Shamans, Diviners, and Spiritual Healers. She belonged to a long-line of highly respected practitioners within her Tribe. During my childhood, I would spend hours observing her working with her Africa Stones and I remember being completely fascinated by the process. In my childhood curiosity, I would ask all the “what and why” questions that children usually ask. With great patience and love, she would take each individual piece of her set. She explained where each piece had come from, what each piece represented and why she had added them.
The Energy at the Core of the Africa Stones.
The driving philosophy of the Africa Stones is that of animism. Which is the belief that all things, plants, animals, rock, crystals, seeds and all inanimate objects, contain an energy. And that the animis or energy contained within each piece has a “voice,” each with its own virtue and vibration.
It is believed that through their virtue and vibration, not only do they communicate with each of the other pieces, but they will also communicate with you as the reader, as well. This innate organic animis or energy is also connected to the Divine Mind, Our Ancestors and Ascended Masters. Each piece acts as a channel for divination. By building a bridge between the mind of the reader and The Divine Mind. For perceiving and interpreting insight, to guide the client on the questions or issues they may have.
Each piece of the set therefore comprises of multi-dimensional levels of meaning. As they fall they relate to one another directly as well as to the reader. This then builds into a full and complete picture of the situations, circumstances or events that are connected to the client’s questions. It certainly takes many years of practice to evolve your personal connection to the tool and to happily and confidently interpret the guidance received from each unique reading.
Reading with the Africa Stones.
The Africa Stones as a tool for divination can be successfully applied to just about any question the client may have. From love and relationship matters, to questions on family, friends, loved ones, to day-to day routines, work, business, education, domestic moves. In addition, they can give an indication of challenges, obstacles and even possible timings of your chosen outcome. The list is far too long to mention, but suffice to say it is one of my most favourite and popular tools that I use.
My personal set comprises of the “Africa Stones” themselves, the seeds, crystals, shells, dice, coins, and charms that I have lovingly collected over the years. As this is an organic tool, the inter-relationship between the animis of each piece evolves and changes with time. I have consequently added and discarded pieces within the set as I have evolved and developed my intuitive relationship with the tool as a whole. They really do “feel” like life-long friends now and I am completely comfortable in their company.
It may seem weird to some people, but each piece has its own characteristic “voice” within my inner ear. When I prepare to throw the Africa Stones for a reading, I have a deep sense of anticipation for what guidance they may show for me. I do marvel at the immediate connection I have, when the insight is revealed.
The Africa Stones; not just a Random Collection of Items!
However, this is not just an intuitive tool, there are quite strict guidelines when reading the Africa Stones. Firstly, the organic components of the set; the stones, crystals, seeds and shells must be paired together. So, two of each. Also, one must be slightly larger than the other. Visually this represents the masculine and feminine energy. Each of the organic components represents the elements – Fire (stones) Air (seeds) Water (shells) Earth (crystals).
Each of the elements also relate to the Sun Signs and can therefore give a guideline on timings. As an example, I may be guided to note where the seeds fall in a given reading. This may represent the Air Signs – Gemini, Libra or Aquarius, or I may interpret a wider time-line for example the Seasons – Spring (Fire), Summer (Water), Autumn (Earth) Winter (Air) in that particular configuration.
The Meaning of each of the Components
The charms in my set are varied and diverse which adds depth and breadth to my interpretations. In my set I have two dice, one is a 9-sided die and the other a traditional six-sided die. The larger 9-sided one links directly to traditional numerology. This then adds a further interpretation of the energy surrounding the question. The other die adds a further component when considering the timeline.
I have also included the Hand of Fatima, which represents power, protection and strength. Also, a porcelain miniature “beckoning” dolls arm. This represents all forms of communication. There are also two pennies connecting to status and value. These are also considered as “Pennies from Heaven” for spiritual guidance. In addition, my set also has 4 heart shaped silver charms – a Cupids heart, the lock and key, the blossoming heart and the committed heart. These charms specifically relate to affairs of the heart. Consequently, they are also a very important part with regards to love and relationship questions.
When throwing the Stones, I always use a chamois leather to place them on as well as to cover and store them. This just protects their “animis” energy and is a respectful way to care for my “old friends.” And they live in their “own house” too… LOL…the container looks like a little house…yes, yes, I know I know…
How I Read for a Client with the Africa Stones
When preparing for any reading I am “open” and ready to receive my guidance. I am always respectful towards the client. I lay out the Chamois. Then, I gather the pieces, shake them and then throw them. As they fall I visualize a grid on the chamois. This is a large circle divided into 4 sections, each section representing an area of the reading. There are several grids that I visualize, depending on the question posed by the client. So, for example in a love and relationship reading. the 4 sections are Heart, Communication, Depth and Commitment. Where the pieces fall within those 4 sections, will add a deeper layer of interpretation to the reading.
The Africa Stones; My Heritage and My Connection.
So now you know just how the Africa Stones work and how I came to be using them. It is a wonderful way of working and one which I am extremely proud of. It represents my heritage, my childhood and my African Spirit, always respectful toward my Ancestors and our Earth Mother
Till next time… xxx LVZ
