The UK Spring Equinox – 20th March 2020
The Spring Equinox is here at last! Flowers in full bloom, better weather (we can hope!) and longer days! The Equinox marks the first day of Spring and where the daytime and nighttime are of equal length. During this current situation, that we all find ourselves in, it’s a welcome feeling of change! Although we might not be able to experience a regular day out, we can appreciate a window open with fresh air or even a short walk to keep us all motivated!
Don’t forget to set your clocks an hour forward Sunday 29th March! The very welcome Daylight Saving Time starts by announcing the beginning of British Summer Time!
In the meantime, stay safe and stay positive!
Love and Light! xx

Spring Equinox
What is the Spring Equinox?
The Spring Equinox will mark a transition period where the days begin getting longer in the Northern Hemisphere and shorter in the Southern Hemisphere. This is because Earth’s poles create a maximum tilt away from the Sun in the Southern Hemisphere and maximum tilt toward the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere.
The word Equinox is Latin which translates as “equal night”, as the day and night of the first day will be of equal length. In ancient times, the Spring Equinox was used as a way of keeping track of the seasons. If you’re based in the UK, people gather around Stonehenge to celebrate the Equinox in a variety of song and dances! In Mexico, there are gatherings at the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza where the sun, at key points of the day, creates shadows in the shape of snakes on the steps of the pyramids.

Astronomical Seasons
The astronomical seasons occur as the Earth’s axis is on a tilt from the sun, so different parts of the world receive more solar energy than others. The seasons are based on the Earth’s journey around the sun, with the four quarters of the orbit determining our four seasons. This, in turn, creates the seasons
Spring (March, April, May)
Summer (June, July, August)
Autumn (September, October, November)
Winter (December, January, February)
Spring in Your Step
Though it’s not the happiest of times for the world, it is a positive one! As people unite to do their bit for each other. If you are able to get out in a park or garden, take in the wonderful spring air and get that extra spring in your step. Onwards to better things!
