Mercury Retrograde in Gemini – 29th May 2021
“Oh no, the Mercury Retrograde!” Usually, when we hear or read those words, it doesn’t inspire much confidence! After all, this year we are moving closer to fewer restrictions and more freedoms, so could this be a spanner in the works? Well, far from retrograding backwards, this is more of a few bumps in the road, leading to potential misunderstandings. Like the recent Super Moon, it’s a time of truths to be spoken!
Appearing in the air sign of Gemini, a sign known for addressing problems head-on, this may apply to this particular retrograde. Think of it in terms of being a series of hiccups than an actual setback. There are always the usual technology frustrations and lack of direct messaging but in the grand scheme of things, we have faced far more challenges in the past year! We are still moving, very slowly but quite surely!
When is the Mercury Retrograde?
For 2021 there will be three instances of a Mercury Retrograde, which interestingly enough, all happen to be Air Signs. The dates that it will occur in the UK are as follows,
- 30th January 2021 – 20th February 2021 (in the air sign of Aquarius)
- 29th May 2021 – 22nd June 2021 (in the air sign of Gemini)
- 27th September 2021 – 18th October 2021 (in the air sign of Libra)
What Does the Mercury Retrograde Mean?
Mercury is known as the Roman God of messages. The word Retrograde comes from the Latin word retrogradus, which translates as “backward step.” As it suggests, Retrograde is the term for when a planet appears to reverse its orbit, from the perspective of our planet.
But of course, Mercury is not actually travelling backwards; it just appears to be. Imagine two planets moving side by side. One moving slower than the other, giving the appearance of moving backwards against the faster moving one!
Mercury Retrograde in Gemini
This is the second of three Mercury Retrogrades for this year. Following the first one in Aquarius, this Retrograde is square Neptune which highlights that you can’t trust everything that you might read or hear! It can bring confusion and even deception.
So clear communication is of vital importance. Shoot from the hip and don’t muddle your words, the chances of misinterpretation is higher than normal!
Remember, the Mercury Retrograde is only at its with us for a few weeks and, coincidently, finishes just in time for the lifting of social distancing and getting back to a kind of normality (fingers crossed!). Now that is rewarding!
