The New Astrological Year
The Astrological Year does not start on January 1st every year. It actually occurs at the Spring Equinox with the coming of Spring. This happens every year on the 20th or 21st of March as the blossoms burst forth around us! This year the Astrological New Year comes to us on Saturday 20th March and you might just want to have your own kind of celebration! Sceptical? Let’s look at the facts.
Last Year, The New Astrological Year began on March 20th. And we all know what happened on the cusp of that New Year. Shocking images on our TVs. The first lockdown. A general feeling of overwhelming stress. Panic buying.
Is There A Reason?
In early December 2019, Jupiter, The Planet of Good Fortune and Expansion, moved into the Earth sign of Capricorn. This is the position known as being “in its Fall.” This means very simply that Jupiter is transiting the sign where it is most unhappy and to its detriment. Each Planet has its “happy transits” through certain signs and its “unhappy transits” through certain other signs. As each Planet travels through the different signs of the zodiac, the energy of our environment changes.
Jupiter’s journey through each sign takes approximately one year. That feeling of restriction and gloom certainly resonated with every one of us! Now add to that mix that Saturn, the Planet of Karma, was coming into the last phase of his two and a half year cycle in Capricorn too….

The Importance of Saturn
Saturn is the Planet of Karma. It is known as the Taskmaster Planet that helps us to grow by learning lessons. Weak areas that need attention are brought into the limelight. In earthly Capricorn, Saturn is in his element and completely at home here. But, while in Capricorn, Saturn teaches us lessons about our Planet, how to advance in a conscious manner, to really consider what we need and we want in our lives and to consider our personal growth on this Planet very carefully.
Capricorn when looked at on a global level, also officially concerns governments, boundaries, structure and defence. It rules over the global organization and the rulers of the world themselves. If you combine Jupiter and Saturn’s energy as they transited through Capricorn, we can see this earthly, landlocked energy, a lack of movement with difficult trials to consider what action can be taken, the power of governments, the hard decision making, all set among a feeling of restriction.
And Now For The Good News!
In mid-December 2020, Jupiter moved into the airy energy of Aquarius. In this new transit lasting around 1 year, Jupiter gets going again! Rather than feeling restrained, Jupiter encourages liberation of mind and spirit, leading to earthly and bodily movement too. Jupiter is now fully in his stride and feels much more comfortable. The energy is one of Expansion once again. Aquarius is a thinking sign, that likes to take all angles into consideration in order to resolve issues and move forwards successfully. Thus innovative and out of the box thinking is encouraged and creates new energy of the Aquarian ilk! The logistics of vaccine rollout is probably a good example of this.
At the same time that Jupiter moved into Aquarius, Saturn moved into Aquarius too. Saturn in Aquarius energy is about new technological advances, mental agility to find solutions, even if new ways need to be discovered to make this durable. Saturn in Aquarius is the need for Freedom and human social connections, of finding the right way forwards.

This Spring Equinox 2021 is therefore an important one, announcing the start of the New Astrological Year. The Sun moves into fiery Aries, a great go-getting sign, but one that can be rather impatient! But Aries brings the announcement, the trumpeting, the heralding in of our next phase with the Aquarian energy charging electrically in the background.
What will happen next? Each of us waits with anticipation, with hope, visualizing our dreams and desires with open hearts and clasped hands. Just watch the developments as they happen, see the opportunities arise. And, watch the New Astrological Year open up. One thing is for sure, with Both Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, it will be new ways of thinking that bring us forwards during this brand new year!
